Last Friday night we headed to the Iowa State Fair for my very first time. I didn’t quite know what to expect but I did know it’s a huge friggin’ deal out here. It’s like Christmas to these people. I was expecting Farmer Bill with no teeth and all his pigs running around in their own poop but once I got there I realized it wasn’t anything like I expected or that we just avoided Farmer Bill and his pigs.
There were tons of places to get food, all kinds of food, and it seemed like most food was on a stick which is pretty awesome when you’re constantly on the move. We saw lots of farm equipment and I couldn’t help but take a picture of a combine that can cost as much as $500,000.00 or more. You’re not pimpin’ until you’re rolling around in something that expensive, take that, P.Diddy [or whatever the hell your name is now].
The best part of the fair was the food, no doubt. It was a pregnant girls heaven! We had a funnel cake which is pretty comparable to a dough boy back home, just a little more airy. We covered it in glaze [or frosting] instead of powdered sugar and shared it. It was amazing. Our next piece of food after that was a big ass turkey leg. I’ve had these in Disney World before and just as before the only way to eat it is to share it. Thing is huge!
Below is a picture of a ‘Pork Tenderloin’. I don’t recall ever having such a thing back home but they’re wicked popular out here. It’s like a pork patty on a bun. I’ve seen them with pickles on them before and I’m pretty sure people put just about everything on them. I was a little apprehensive the first time I tried one [back in May] but they’re actually really good considering I’m not much of a pork person.
We then took a walk through the amusement park area of the fair and I couldn’t help but take pictures of the Ferris Wheel with the gorgeous sky behind it. I also scored myself a candy apple because the caramel apple with nuts we had earlier in the night just didn’t cut it. If I was smart I would have bought a dozen of those candy apples considering how bad I’ve been craving them ever since.
I had such a great time and it was an awesome experience. I wouldn’t mind getting my ass back there before it ends to stock up on those candy apples. ;D
